[Question] Selling / Trading watches - how many of you actually do it?
Main Post:
Hey r/Watches.
I'm sure most of you spend plenty of time window shopping on reddit or Chrono24 or even better - in person. Trying on what catches your eye, making excuses to yourself why you probably do need another watch because the 5 other ones you have had their novelty slightly worn off.
Whether its Rolex, Omega, Hamilton - spending $1000+ on a watch is in reality a luxury unecessary expense.
I digress!!
I start thinking recently its time to splash on another watch. I like the Chonomat 42 Chronograph, maybe even a Laureato (thinking about going pre-owned this time).
In order to consider all options, I should also consider what I can do with my current "collection" (watches I have bought previously with no intention of calling it a "collection" haha). Its not so big - a Rolex, Tudor, couple of other pieces less extravagent. Rather than carelessly accumulating more, I could consider trading or selling. It would be a nice habit to eventually experience more pieces.
How many of you actually trade-in watches or sell in order to facilitate another?
Did you have any regret / attatchment that you wished you hadn't?
How do you go about it? (Grey dealer / Chrono / other?)
Top Comment: I recently crossed 100 transactions on r/watchexchange . There's been a lot of churn in my collection, ha.

[Question] Watch Trading
Main Post:
Id like to update my collection and hopefully get some nicer watches but id like to do this through trading in person, although im not sure where to start. Im looking for some forums or websites for trades. Any help would be greatly appreciated ( trading in England/Scotland if possible)
Top Comment: It's going to heavily depend on your location. Obviously, you need a healthy local watch market of people with whom to trade. I'd start by finding any local watch enthusiast groups.
Trading watches
Main Post:
What is too quick of a turnaround for trading in watches? I bought a grand seiko snowflake and initially liked it. Didn’t like the bracelet so I switched it to a leather strap and loved it at the moment. Realized I don’t like the date on watches since when I don’t wear them for a few days I get annoyed fixing the date every time. Feeling like trading it in but don’t want it to be too soon. How long should I wait before looking to trade it in?
Top Comment: You have to wait at least 6 months to trade in any watch. Or else you go to horology jail
Best place to sell a watch?
Main Post:
I tried on the watchexchange Reddit and it’s super tough for new users to seem reputable enough to sell a watch.
Was going to try the app bezel as they guarantee authenticity but they require you to enter your social security number which I didn’t love.
eBay? Thoughts?
Top Comment: I mean, selling something online is always just kind of a shitshow. eBay's a pretty decent place since it's more of a structured site. eBay will also have higher traffic for your watch, so you'll probably be able to get the highest price on ebay. The only issues with eBay are the absurd amount of buyer protections, meaning that someone can just return an item for no good reason. I used r/watchexchange for a good few years, but i would stay away from it for new sellers. The process of selling and buying is not structured at all, and theres no seller or buyer protection. Plus, the mods of that sub are power-hungry losers who've been known to ban random people for the stupidest reasons. I'm like 99% certain I got banned because I'm also active on r/watchescirclejerk , but the mods will only tell me "you know why."
New in trading

Hello guys, I’m pretty sure many people have asked this question. I don’t anything about watch trading and I would like to start. Does anybody now what are the few first steps to start doing this. Has anyone followed a course which was helpful? Or found some forums? Please let me know. Many thanks
Top Comment: Are you talking about the tiktokers who "trade" watches as in you're trying to make money? This is a forum for watch enthusiasts, and generally those people are looked down on in this forum. You will also make NO money unless you're planning on trading in luxury watches, which you shouldn't do unless you're well versed in those watches as you'll just end up getting ripped off/scammed/ect.
[How difficult is it to make money buying and reselling luxury watches?]
Main Post:
As the title says, kind on an open ended question here. Is it possible to learn the market for watches and make money on the side with this sort of gig?
Top Comment: Buying and selling luxury watches is a great way to make money. It makes money for the watch companies, for the authorized dealers or other distribution partners or individuals you buy from, as well as money for the sales platforms you sell on, money for the payment processors and banks you use to receive payment, and money for the various range of nations, states, and municipalities who will want to charge taxes or duties on the sale. Yes, you'll make a ton of money buying and selling watches... just very little of it will be for you.
Watch out - Trading 212 are thieves and stole my money!
Main Post:
I transferred £5k to my trading 212 account a week ago. The money still hasn't appeared in my account balance. My bank has confirmed it was definitely sent to trading 212, yet the 'customer service ' team refuse to acknowledge its arrival and just take me round in circles. If I ever see my money again I'm immediately closing my account and switching to someone else. Avoid!
If any trading 212 staff see this, please reach out, instead of having a nice office party at my expense.
Top Comment:
Before shouting accusations, did you get a reply from 212 as to where the funds are. Do you have a record of the transaction being completed from the bank account? Also what date did the transfer get sent?
